$15.00Price

Caladiums are tropical plants native to South and Central America, renowned for their striking foliage. These plants feature large, heart-shaped, or arrow-shaped leaves in a variety of vibrant colors, including shades of pink, red, white, and green. The leaves often showcase intricate patterns, including speckles, veins, or contrasting borders.

Caladiums are tuberous plants, thriving in warm, humid conditions and typically going dormant during cooler months.

  • Light Requirements

    • Indoors: Very bright light
    • Outdoors: Morning to late morning sunlight.

    Watering

    • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
    • Reduce watering during the dormant period (autumn and winter)

    Temperature & Humidity

    • Optimal temperature: 18–29°C
    • High humidity is ideal; consider using a humidifier or pebble tray if the air is dry.

    Soil

    • Well-draining, rich soil with organic matter. A mix of potting soil and perlite works well.

    Fertilizing

    • Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
    • Add pelletised chicken manure or worm castings at the beginning of the growing season (spring and summer).
    • Avoid fertilizing during dormancy.

    Pruning & Maintenance

    • Remove yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain plant health and aesthetics.
    • Check regularly for pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs.

    Dormancy Care

    • In cooler climates, Caladiums go dormant in autumn.
    • If grown in containers, stop watering and allow the soil to dry.
    • If grown outdoors, ensure very well draining soil or dig up the tubers, clean off the soil, and store them in a cool, dry place until spring.
